Helpless Indians.

They had done it before on a Friday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday and now they did it on a WEDNESDAY. Do not worry very shortly Monday will be covered as well. Nothing new, It was a terrorist attack again. Everything was the same but the manner in which they did it this time was different. Terrorists came through sea and attacked Mumbai as usual. Instead of common market or a crowded train, they choose Taj and The Oberoi hotels this time. They proved a point that if they really want they can come anywhere, anytime and attack us and we cannot do anything about it but die to their bullets, cover their action continously on News channels and after all this light a candle mourn for the dead. Come Monday we feel bad for the dead and the wounded and we are back in our respective offices doing our daily routine work as always. And people around the world call this the "Spirit of the City" , they do not understand "That we INDIANS are HELPLESS and can do NOTHING other than this". I do appreciate that Leopold Cafe, one of the places terrorists attacked, was open Sunday afternoon for business and there were people coming in as usual, but the point is what could they do other than opening???

Thanks to these terrorists for one reason, every time they attack, we Indians will stand united irrespective of religion and caste. But not too long, within no time our politicians have the ability to divide us back. Its a collective failure of the ruling state and Centre governments namely the congress. Shivraj patil resigned or was rather sacked and now Chidambaram is new Home minister but will things change?? Does that mean there will bw no more terror attacks on India?? No I dont think so. In US after 9/11, all parties came together and saw terrorism as a common problem of the country and took some decisions which have the results. No terrorist ever even thinks of an attack on US anymore. But in India things are different, when such a meeting was called our own Advani and Rajnath Singh were campaigning for elections and highlighting the failures of UPA. Vilas Rao Deshmukh was with Ram Gopal Verma for inspection of Taj. Why was RGV there?? If he was thinking of doing a movie, good but not the time for inspection when many people still did not know where their loved ones were. Mr. R R Patil said these kind of things happen in big cities. He should be ashamed to tell that. If terrorists had attacked his family, would he have told the same statement?? And where is Raj Thackeray who is the latest hero in Mumbai Politics who want to send non Maharashtra people out of Mumbai. He has to be reminded that the NSG forces which saved the city from further damage were INDIAN soldiers and not Mumbai alone. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan of NSG who was killed while attacking the terrorists was of Tamil origin, brought up in Bangalore, part of the Bihar regiment, and camped in Haryana but when the terrorists attacked he came as an INDIAN and fought against them. The fact is in India the politicans concentrate too much on how to come to power but have absolutely no idea what to do when they are finally in power.

Lot of people say you have to vote to be a responsible citizen of the country but I do not agree with this. Whom should I vote and Why??
Congress : Because I can make a SC/ST certificate and claim reservation.
BJP : Because I am a Hindu and BJP promotes Hindutva.
LEFT : Because they would not allow any industry function smoothly.

The point is this terror would have happened irrrespective of UPA and NDA governments and will continue to happen as long as these corrupt politicians rather the privileged citizens of the country continue the administration as they are doing now.

I know my vote is precious and I pledge that I would not vote any idiot just for the heck of voting. I would vote only when some one comes up and tells, 1) Criminals when proved guilty for acts such as terrorisms will be killed till death. Punishments will be made more severe and will be implemented to one and all irrespective of politician or actors. 2) There will be no reservations based on caste, If it is there it will be only for people who are financially backward and not backward caste as I believe no caste is backward.

Finally Hats off to the Mumbai policemen and NSG for protecting us without caring for their lives. India lost three of its best policemen, I hope we can recover soon from the loss. Its happened in Mumbai this time, not too far it may happen to us in Bangalore here. The corporates here are asking for licence of AK 47, as they think that the government is incapable of protecting us and they can protect themselves. I do not know if this will be granted but it would be great if a rule is passed that all offices, schools etc should have compulsory training for citizens where they can protect themselves from fire, first aid training to save people in need of immediate help etc.

As I write this post the bottom line is "WE INDIANS ARE HELPLESS", I know nothing I told above would happen anytime. Politicians will continue to divide and rule us and we will continue to be as we are.

Until next time or rather
Until next terror attack.

Good Bye,
Sri

Wonderful post! I go the sense of frustration that every Indian faces through your post.
But just curious - If we remove all the leaders(politicians) from power, who will lead this country? Everyone tells them to go, but who is the replacement?
But after so many attacks this is the first time i'm getting a feeling that things are going to change for the good. The establishment of FIA for one is a giant leap for Indians.

Nice post ! I am glad that the terrorists changed the way they attacked us this time around , since if it was yet another bomb blast , I don't know if our leaders have felt the pinch ! The ten point proposal which PC is supposed to considerin the front page of TOI today looks good, on paper atleast.Like Madhu said in one of conv's , we are in need of an able dictatorship, since there is a weak democracy.I was flabberghasted by what Advani did , by not attending the all party meet ! Disgusting is an understatement ! I hope UPA is back , I have a feeling they will act , with guilt atleast. BJP has not been a good opposition at all.

So many blasts within a single year!!! Is this India or helpless nation which can be attacked anytime by anyone..Root cause is politics and politicians.most of the politicians come to power with making money as their proirity...Its very difficult to change Indian politicians.Imagine how sad our leaders are as such a huge country with so much power is been attacked by a few terrorists...

Good one !!...

One thing is for sure from all the recent blast is that they have enough resources within INDIA to provide them with logistics to make these operations a success.

Key point is INTERNAL SECURITY, we need to have excellent policing at grass root level to avert such incidents. Corruption and crime is a wasy of life in Mumbai and it explains why Mumbai had been a soft target....

Good one Sri. U have covered every thing. Looks like you wrote the whole thing in one breath.

I like the bottom line. I would like to modify it to

WE INDIANS ARE "HELPED-LESS" by our so-called politicians and servants of the society.

Funnily enough, I never saw the Mousey Mr. Raj Thackeray's face anywhere after Wednesday.. When it came to terrorists, I guess North Indians and South Indians from NSG had to come flying from Delhi to rescue these poeple.. Not the Maharashtra Manoos...

Nice post..

Plain speak... it just boils down to the basic needs, we Indians need to work to meet our basic needs and we can't do that sitting at our house...

the point that, the educated class is not an "united vote bank" is the under current that lets the politicians run the show amuck,

boycotting the polls and politicians will not serve the cause.. we need leaders, we need to make them answerable.. there is a need to amend the constitution.. the elected representative must be answerable to his electorate.. in failing to do so he must face an impeachment...

the issue of marathi manoos etc is entirely another face of the electorate.. i do not endorse the furor that surrounds it but, feel that central and the state govts must ensure that the preferences are given to the localites in the lower grades of the departmental vacancies at least, if they cannot do it then it is absolute baseless to have formed Language based states.. though they are used inefficiently by the politicos, why in first place have such a divisive tool.. if POTA is missed then we can scrap it, if the statehood is miss used why not scrap that too or provide another alternative...

I appreciate your views, but i hope that you wouldn't be boycotting the elections!!

Worst part of our democracy is that..

Policies are made on paper.. but politics are played all over....

The terrorist attack in Mumbai on 26th / 27th Nov 08 has killed over 150 and wounded another 300 people. This is yet another slap on India’s face. It is good that Mr Raj Thakeray did not protest, beat and kill personnel of NSG, Army and Navy commandos involved in fighting terrorism as most of them were non Maharastrians.
The NEWS reports suggested that the government did not have clear procedures to deal with such a situation. Such incidents have happened in many other countries. Our government should have been proactive and prepared suitable action plan as a duty by simulating similar incidents in our country. The live broadcast also suggests that the situation was quite out of control. Various agencies participated in flushing out operation. All activities including crowd control, traffic, media information, fire control, hostage details, medical services, particulars of dead, etc should have been controlled at single control center for each of the three locations viz Taj Hotel, Nariman Building and Trident Oberoi Hotel. Unfortunately, each participating agency involved in operation was conducting its own road side press conference. Political leaders too did not leave this opportunity to speak in front of the cameras at site of operations, where they have no role to play.
The TAJ Hotel building should be left as it is and converted into a memorial. This will be a reminder to us and our government that security to life is more important then cash awards for the dead. India needs to protect itself by strengthening each citizen and not just VVIPs (ordinary citizens such as Priyanka and her husband included). As a first and foremost step the Arms Act 1959 should be amended to permit each citizen above 25 years to own a non prohibited bore weapon through our Ordinance Factories without licence for self protection and security against terrorism. Self protection should be as simple as getting a Mobile connection.
Also hope my fellow HELPLESS Indians, will VOTE for leaders who can provide us “SECURITY” first and “Keep their promises” second.
Jai Hind

Hi Srinath!

You have covered fairly enough to instigate the readers and at the same time a sigh of desperation that we are helpless.
I would add a few more flaws that have happened in all these days. One major factor was Barkha Datt. I am confused if she was narrating about the latest happenings or helping the terrorists with timely very sophisticated confidential happenings in the TAJ and unaware about it being aired. One such instance was a lady talking to her about her husband being trapped in the TAJ and she most assertively speaking openly about it.
Mark it guys! The media did all to cover the so called Spirit of Mumbai (TAJ or OBEROI) but none came to CST station to cover what happened there. Local citizens as they say "There were more killings and mishaps at the CST than anywhere". THATS THE SPIRIT OF MUMBAI.
What i do not comprehend is that only Mumbaikers are seen active after this event. Mumbai is just the epicentre, this can happen anywhere all round the country.
RAJ THAKREY .. so called the HERO of MUMBAI.. where the hell is he ?
The real Heroes are the one who fought every moment to resuscitate the situation. hiding in closet is a paradigm of Cowardice and Self conceitedness. I am sure he must be planning a long speech that he would present to the Mumbaikers. Dividing the country for his own motives is what he's demontrating.
But guys! i feel there can be a solution to all this. Considering our constraints.. lets discuss a long terms plan that we can contribute towards making our place, our country a safe place to live. Of course it should be possible if we start thinking. Where there is a will, There is a way.
Let not let a silent Criminal divide us with his treacherous strategies.
Jai HIND !
